My journey began in 1995 when I received my medical degree. I spent the next 15 years on the front lines-working in emergency medicine. I responded to people who had already faced the most devastating consequences of metabolic disease: heart attacks, strokes, severe obesity, diabetes. Saw the endpoints they had reached. And each time, realized we were treating the aftermath, not the cause.

One case struck me particularly hard. I was called to a patient with severe obesity and cardiac problems. On his nightstand was a photo from 10 years earlier: a young, fit, vibrant man full of life. I was deeply shaken by how quickly metabolic dysfunction can destroy a person’s health. And I realized: saving people at the last moment wasn’t my mission. The key was helping them address this catastrophe in its early stages.

This professional reckoning forced me off the beaten path. I began diving deep into the latest scientific research in endocrinology, biochemistry, and gerontology.
